The Vanity They Worship
Empty are their hearts and bigoted their smiles
Souls covered in glittered cloth
Wishing ill upon another's life
What more misery can you speak of?
Hitherto my pen, you trembled to write
Scared of their tongues and eyes
Doing what does a sharp knife
How many more daggers will it take my heart?
To snatch away this soul from life..
To hew small talk and to conform to their style
Is too heavy a price to pay
For my little heart forcibly disguised
Into what it is not but free and wild
But walking with empty hearts is not what it desires
For too vile is the vibe
Of the "Truth" that they speak..
About this poem
I wrote this poem because I observed that the buzz of the city life has made people highly independent in all aspects of life. In many ways, it has made people selfish and self-centered. Pretentiousness has taken over the society where there is a huge difference between what people say and what they actually feel.
