My Break
Emma Oglesby 2006 (Missouri)
There's a void in my heart that needs to be filled
an emptiness that is kinda just there
a burden on my chest that's weighing me down
I need to let go of my past
I sit here and think of all of the things
from the thoughts in my head to the words that I speak
My mind is stuck on repeat
There's a man in my thoughts running around
Caught my heart from hitting the ground
Love is my only escape
The feeling of him wrapped around me so tight
I begin to let go of all the things that keep me awake at night
This man has my heart and I hope it won't break in this gentle fragile state
My heart starts to sink at the thought of him going I'm dreading the day that he leaves
They don't stick around because of my mind
It stresses them out because it just runs wild
With tears in my eyes, I beg you to stay
My heart can withhold another break
It shattered to pieces with the last little drop
I picked it back up and held it close
My emotions shut down and I got closed off
Yet you taught me to love once again
I lost all hope for a good bit of time
you lifted my chin and held it high
I forgot what this feeling was like
Thank you for being there when I couldn't love
and thank you for being the one I can hug
I'll hold you dearly til death do us part
If you'll be willing to do your part
To the memories we have and the ones we will make
the adventures we'll go on and the risks we will take
I love you my dear have sweet dreams
and when you wake ill be right here
About this poem
I wrote this poem in the middle of the night in 2021. It's a story about my craziness and how I finally found the one that can handle said craziness. It was my breaking point. Not in a bad way, but in a sense that I broke through the hardships.
