The Human Brain

The human brain, cerebral wonder
Quite a marvel to behold!
Has it ever at all progressed?
if truth be truly told
Shall we now peruse the evidence
Laid out hopefully crystal clear
My heart doth truly palpitate
As we enter this realm of fear
Symmetrical protoplastic wonder
Your marvels we can’t deny
Yet lurking deep within your depths
Your synaptic structures belie
Potential for savior acts of kindness
So pure, so angelic and true
Yet in that very same convoluted organ
Inhumanity lies latent-Its evil to pursue
The conflict is an age old quandary
We see the results each and every day
A stranger pauses to rescue a puppy
A bigot spews words of venom so vile,
Such words I cannot even say
The potential to use gray matter for good
Remains vital like a smoldering ember
Still those very same synaptic connections
Can yield horrors we’d never want to remember
So what’s my point you rightfully ask
Why emphasize what we already know?
Is this just a brain game once again
Are these poetic words just for ego-feeding show?
Just saying there’s always potential in life
To focus cerebral energy on goodness, kindness and sanity
For the potential always lurks deep within
To destroy this very tenuous fragile humanity
About this poem
The potential of the amazing human brain to do good or to do horrific evil
