They lied to me!

They said that I should go to school
And there I would learn and be wise
But I soon found out that the education system
Was only 10% education and 90% system
A place where little girls and boys
Are brainwashed into blindly following the system

They said that if I get good grades
I could be anything I wanted when I grow up
Nobody told me that anything had boundaries
Boundaries of tribe, color and economic worth
That anything included nothing
And that the sky was too low for a limit

They said I should go to church and be good
So that all I prayed for, the good God would give
Nobody told me the church is a business
And I must pay for the privilege
That God helped those who have already helped themselves
And goddamned to those unlucky poor souls

They said that I shouldn't worry about my loneliness
That there was someone out there for everyone
Nobody told me it might take forever to find her
That she might have been born at a different time than me
That she might be in China while I am stuck in Africa
That she might be a he, and I might not have the feel

Nobody told me!
