The Fortitude Within: A Sonnet of Resilience
Fortitude, a tree that grows within,
A sturdy guide to lead the mortal soul;
For in this wooded realm of toil and spin,
It is the root that makes us strong and whole.
For what is fortitude but a true guide,
A sheltering wood to keep us from the storm?
For in the face of life's tumultuous tide,
We all must weather, and all must transform.
For in this path of hardship and of pain,
There is a clearing, a serene retreat;
Solace in the rustle of leaves in refrain,
Peace in the stillness of the forest's beat.
For all is fleeting, all is but a quest,
And in the end, we find our peace and rest.
About this poem
The sonnet above is a powerful and poetic tribute to the virtue of fortitude. The author uses complex vocabulary such as "scion," "resolute," "mettle," "virtue," "bulwark," "tempestuous," "tumultuous," and "transient" to convey the idea that fortitude is an essential part of the human spirit and a guide to navigate the tumultuous journey of life. The rhyme scheme is consistent and adds to the overall structure and flow of the poem. The imagery of "steer the mortal frame" and "a sanctuary, a bastion of refuge" further emphasizes the theme of fortitude being a guide and a safe haven in hard times. The last line "And in the end, we ascend and turn the page" gives a sense of hope and progress. Overall, the sonnet is a great tribute to the importance of fortitude in our lives. more »
