The soldiers watch
Heather Lydia Thornhill 1981 (Manchester)
As the condensation and the mould and the mildew gather on my window pane
And my pen is clamped and spun around in the growing energy of my walls
A soldier watches the bullets hit their target
More often than he'd like
Then he races in: the somebody, doing something! to help
But sometimes, he is too late to catch the bullet
It hit its smallest target
And at the same time the biggest
And it resonated in that mind
The touch
The thought
The heart
He still watches or not
I will not know in this life
That bullet will be caught, and another, and another
