The Summer Sunshine

Thomas E. Dragon 1986 (Burlington, VT)

Autumn and Winter
Come, go, back, and gone again.
You are the constant sunshine.

About this poem

A haiku for my daughter, Annabelle Lee. When she was a baby, her mom stayed home with her, and bedtime was my thing. I would have to sing “you are my sunshine” over and over while rocking her, to get her to sleep. Despite her rage at being offered dad’s bad singing voice to fall asleep to, rather than moms breast milk, it was the best part of my day.
