The boys of summer
The boys of summer,
all summer long they drunk the wine,
all summer long they sung along,
about summer.
Their lust and love united,
their taste and touch was harnessed,
their time and temperament relaxed.
And I nested on your chest,
and I fought to stay alive,
and it was Thailand,
and it was peaceful and serene,
as peaceful as dreamless sleep,
and wakeful as focusing attention,
as possible as a meditation,
on all things that are impossible.
The girls in winter they go to their loves,
they put on socks on and rings on their fingers,
and they save the tablecloths.
And I nestled in your arms,
and I questioned not the answers,
and I kept my lucky charm,
for next winter,
and I was a peaceful sleeper,
a pacifist and a boy,
and I was coy and credulous,
for you are just incredible
The boys of summer,
all summer long they sunk their teeth in fruit and dreams,
they looked at the girls who looked at the sun,
who took to the sea for salvation.
You have a beautiful smile,
and your face is indelible,
for you are incredible.
This boy is of summer and winter and noon,
and one sweet afternoon hopes to hold you,
and if this can’t happen soon,
he can go to pain unknown,
and still bloom.
You are the perfect simile,
the perfect place to be,
my only folly,
is to find out,
how mad I am about you.
The boys of summer sung along and drunk the wine and roses,
they sung and danced and placed their hands on
something so imaginary,
that even death itself was bypassed, the ineffable,
for you to me are incredible.
