Trapped in the System: A Poem on the 9 to 5 Grind
Capitalism, a cruel mistress fair,
A system built on greed and care,
A world where money is the only king,
And people are just cattle, on a string.
We're programmed, like robots, every day,
To work the 9 to 5, with no delay,
Toiling away, just to pay the bills,
And struggling to get ahead, just to fulfill.
Our lives are consumed by work and more,
And there's never time to explore,
To find joy and love, or to simply be,
For we're just slaves, in this economy.
We're told that success is just a raise,
And that wealth and fame will bring us praise,
But what good is money, when you can't breathe,
When life has lost its meaning, and you can't be free?
Capitalism, a hateful game we play,
A world where people are nothing, but prey,
A system that exploits and takes what's due,
And leaves us empty, and feeling blue.
So let us reject this cruel reality,
And seek a new way, for humanity,
Where love and kindness, reign supreme,
And people can finally, truly dream.
About this poem
As a writer and observer of the world around me, I have often been struck by the harsh realities of capitalism. The way in which we are all expected to work long hours, sacrificing our time and energy just to pay the bills, seems like a cruel game that we are all forced to play. In this poem, I explore the many ways in which capitalism can be a cruel mistress, luring us in with promises of success and wealth, only to leave us feeling empty and unfulfilled. Through my words, I hope to shed light on the flaws of this system, and inspire others to seek a new way forward for humanity, one where love and kindness reign supreme. more »
