The day I died
When I was little,
How I wish I would grow,
But now that I’m grown,
How I wish I had known,
Life isn’t that easy,
It’s a dark bending road,
There’s no story to tell,
Just wounds down to the bone,
Words that will break you,
The past back to haunt,
Your reliving each day,
Till your slapped down in the morgue,
Life has no joy,
Each day plays the same,
You may not notice the repeats,
Different characters, same game
Cradling yourself at night,
An ocean leaks from your eyes,
Waking up the following day,
The same person you despise,
The heavens they won’t accept you,
Your day just didn’t come,
The devils taken over your fate,
And he’s only just begun
The life that now awaits you,
It’s much darker than before,
The soul destroying every days,
Let’s see what else he has in store,
You will no longer see the light,
The sun won’t rise again,
My dear you’ve finally made it,
From beginning to the end,
Your final pathway you are taking,
The candles all lit dim,
Not the one you thought you’d take,
Because suicides a sin.
About this poem
After battling with depression and realising I had much more to live for, writing this helped my family to understand how I was feeling when I couldn’t find the words.
