I Finally Told My Story
I finally told my story, an act of bravery.
I unlocked a cage, I didn’t realize I was trapped in.
As the words poured out of me,
I felt as if I was watching at a dove soar away towards the horizon,
Feeling lighter with every beat of his wings.
It was as if a weight had been lifted,
And I was free to finally share my truthful piece.
For so long, my heart had been dormant,
Slumbering through life
Weighed down by the secrets and silences.
But telling the truth was like a jolt of lightning,
Shocking me awake,
And sparking a new sense of purpose within me.
Suddenly, it was as if my heart was no longer encased in ice,
But beating with renewed vitality, energy, and peace.
As I spoke my story out loud,
I felt a sense of empowerment that I had never experienced before.
It was as if I had declared my own independence,
Refusing to be held back by my past or my fears.
And at that moment,
I realized that telling my story wasn't just for me -
It was for anyone else
who might be struggling to find their own voice, too.
About this poem
Sometimes, it is too hard to express or share our story because we know that others will be hurt or maybe you will be judged. However, telling your story is actually the bravest and kindest thing you can do to yourself.
