Drowning
It's dark in the depths, surrounded on all sides but utter chaos and a bitter serenity. It's cold here underneath, as I'm fighting and struggling to break through and the waves keep dragging me under again in a solemn repetitive notion determined to take me to my maker.
I can't stop fighting, or I'll drown trying to save you. Maybe it was a fools errand, with the highest of costs, but if someone has to pay them, here I am. When the water claims me, know that I gave it every fiber of me I went down fighting. The wave passes over head and I feel a hand grab me. As I climb to safety, struggling to breathe, sobbing because I'm alive.
I was drowning, and now I live knowing what it means to survive.
