Just Facts
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Just facts!
Presented as they are to be.
Without the humorous distracting act,
Performed by one...
Accustomed to entertain.
Just facts.
With proof and evidence,
That one declaring an innocence claimed...
Is no more innocent than a child,
Influencing other children to play...
The game of baseball.
Not in an open field,
Where no attention to him is given.
But insist to convince them all,
They play together to be seen as teammates.
Accept with one expected suggestion.
That he alone would play all positions.
The umpire, pitcher, 1st, 2nd and 3rd base.
Catcher, hitter of home runs.
And outfield too!
Allowing him then,
To break all the windows in the neighborhood.
For his own amusement to do.
With it then to hear him blame and accuse,
Of himself being used.
By the judge, jury and his teammates too!
Who stood by to agree,
Him innocent of his misdeeds.
Declaring he had been framed.
That only they knew with experience,
How a game they would play...
Together should be played.
Even to dismiss,
The proof and evidence.
None of them had been aware of it.
Revealing to uncover,
Hidden with attempts...
To smother up his fingerprints.
On everything he touched.
Including his name emblazoned in gold.
A name he loved so much.
That others refused to accept to believe,
One they followed to trust...
Would crush them under a bus.
With a doing to deceive and betray them all!
'He is not guilty,
Of such horrendous, corrupting crimes.
He told us he was innocent.
And we believed him every time!
Inspite of the proof and evidence.
You and not us,
Are out of your minds.'
And there they stood,
In their own divided...
Manipulated neighborhoods.
Defending his innocence.
As well as their being,
Accessories of crimes in their minds...
They did not commit.
Yet admitting playing together,
On the same team!
Hoping to distract,
From the facts of their actions!
