Matters of the Heart
When matters of the heart
Are worked out in your head
There's bound to be
A disconnect
And you were sitting right there
Kissing me without a care
I tried to stop
But your lips were so soft... mmm
I didn't want to stop
Had my heart aloft
But you were not gonna stay
Always, always run away
It's nothing new to me
I just wish that you could see
All the things that got lost
In years of memories
And I know, you feel the same way
As long as we've been gone
From eachother's side
There's been something wrong
And it hurts our pride
To admit defeat
Tried to forget you
Then, again, we meet
Oh
I fucking screamed
When everything fell away
I wish I didn't seek
The love for you I knew would stay
I met you on the stair
I know
You don't care
Just strangers living content
In eachother's heart
Hundreds of miles far
Standing six feet apart
Always on the road
We're old, I'm told
And anger is the word
To start breaking the mould
I'll write a speech
And call it my lament to you
Forever weak
To the beauty of you and me
And I know you feel the same way
As long as we've been gone
From eachother's side
There's been something wrong
And I have no right
To ask this of you
But, stay with me tonight
I just want to love you
If I knew where we would end
Would I do it again?
Yes, I'd do it again
It's pain that I've felt
Not new
The snow melts
Now we're through
Nothing will help
Forget you
Now I say, I know you feel the same way
I know you feel the same way
I know, I know you do
About this poem
This poem was written to the rhythm of a Billie Eilish song. It illustrates the state of mind me, the author, was in when writing. It's for the love that got away.. she's been on my mind lately. Enjoy.
