Do Nigerian media summaries Voice of the Voiceless
Charles Ndukauba 2007 (Onitsha)
In the heart of Africa, a land of rich culture, Lies a nation plagued by a dangerous lure. The Nigerian media, a powerful force, Can mislead, misinform, and incite a course. From sensational headlines to biased reporting, The media’s influence is ever-distorting. Divisions are sown, hatred stirred, And the truth is often obscured. In a nation struggling with poverty and strife, The media’s portrayal can be a knife. Stereotypes are perpetuated, And the voices of the marginalized are abdicated. Politicians, the media to spin their tales, While journalists chase sensational details. The public is bombarded with misinformation, And critical thinking becomes a distant station. The Nigerian media has a responsibility, To inform and educate with integrity. But instead, it often promotes division and strife, And fuels the flames of conflict and strife. In the heart of the city, where the lights shine bright, The media’s influence casts a shadow of blight. From the TV screens to the radio waves, The media’s message subtly enslaves. Politicians use the media to spin their web, Promising change while their pockets they fill with the bread. They plant seeds of division, they sow discord, While the people suffer, their voices ignored. The media, a tool in the hands of the few, To control the masses, to manipulate and subdue. They create narratives, they shape our reality, While we remain oblivious to their fatality. The Nigerian media, a reflection of our society, A mirror that shows us our flaws and our piety. It exposes our corruption, our greed, and our lies, But it also amplifies our hopes and our cries. The media is a double-edged sword, It can inform and educate, or it can distort. It can be a force for good, or it can be a tool for oppression, It all depends on our critical reflection. The Nigerian media, a powerful voice, But it is important to be aware of its choice. It can choose to build bridges, or it can tear them down, It can choose to unite, or it can divide and clown. We must be vigilant, we must be discerning, In the information we consume, we must be learning. We must support independent and credible media outlets, That provide us with facts, not just sensational outlets.
About this poem
This poem is centered in the Nigerian media. How they publish news about celebrities who have notable audiences on their social handles. They claim to be the voice of the voiceless, yet left us feeling a little anxious whether we live in a democratic nation.
