The Tree

Michael Kroll 1961 (New Jersey)

                                        The Tree
I heard a noise and it sounded quite weird,
I think I just saw a ghost wearing a beard!
It couldn’t be a ghost, just wind in a tree,
But I really think the tree is looking at me!

Trees don’t have eyes I don’t think they do.
I must be crazy the tree eyes look blue!!
The top is pointy, like a witch’s hat.
That’s just silly, now the eyes look red!!

The limbs look like fingers and one long arm,
Pointy and sharp, but trees don’t do harm.
I heard another moan, c’mon now gut a grip.
The tree looked it me and licked its lip!

Trees don’t have lips and don’t eat meat,
But this tree looks at me like I’d be a nice treat!
Even if the tree got me, it has no teeth,
It’s just mad, his Moms a Christmas Wreath!

It’s moving towards me; and my legs are stuck.
All that candy I ate, makes me a sitting duck!
The tree almost has me, hey, he don’t look mean,
Hello, have an apple, it’s really kind of keen.
