Moon Girls
Where did all of the moon girls go?
Star touched freckles to ash in the breeze
Hair ribbons tightened around slender necks
Feet daintily shoved into coal burnt heels
Ribs crushed by bony grave
Utopia branded into skin
They stand in a line
Shoulder to shoulder
Long hair tugged back
Once they yanked each others braids
Once they outran the wind
The wind cannot find them here
Rose petals and spring water smeared onto chapped lips
Eyelashes yanked by wart smattered hands
The does that graze at tranquil streams
Shot
Their skin now adorning bony shoulders
Sunken eyes must shine brighter than the farthest star
It has been so long since they saw the moon
Fingers long and slender clutch shards of glass
Blood pure and clean pools on the floor
Contamination
Only hands sharp and ready may touch the sky
Ruffle the silky blues
Be burnt by the fire eternal
If the girl in front of you cannot take it
You must tread on her corpse
Heels tangled in stringy hair
Burning
Ribs crushed under feet deemed beautiful
Suffocating
Hair ribbons ripped from the fallen
Detestable
Necessary
Permanence
About this poem
I wrote this poem to encapsulate the dangerous nature of girlhood, and the price women must pay to grow up.
