Thank YOU
Rejected, dejected, and neglected,
But my smile stayed the same.
I spent my days collecting the shattered pieces of my heart,
While you played it like a game.
If you had looked close enough -
Behind the smile was endless pain.
I put you on a pedestal,
Because I wanted you to love me the same.
Still I chipped away your least favorite parts of myself,
So that you would never be ashamed.
But, even though I tried to change;
There was nothing I could do to make you want to stay.
Now, I look back on that day,
The day that you chose to walk away.
Grateful that I didn’t beg you to stay,
Because I was gifted something of grater value that day.
I was gifted the freedom to find ME,
And, for that; I have you to thank.
