The Magic of Bobcaygeon
The Magic of Bobcaygeon
There is a town they call Bobcaygeon,
For those who come it is a haven,
Of magical things to see and do,
A joy to visit the whole year through.
In Spring we see the town awaken,
With businesses set to soon reopen,
The lakes and rivers start to flow,
As warmer days do melt the snow.
Look up to the sky and you will see,
A loving pair of returning Ospry,
And beautiful flocks of Trumpeter Swans,
Or Canada Geese who gather at dawn.
Eager cottagers and tourists soon arrive,
As slowly the town does come alive,
The church bell rings its hourly song,
For this magical place that we belong.
In Summertime there’s so much more,
For young and old to go explore,
Like walking down that memory lane,
In Settler’s Village where founders came.
The little town beach keeps the kids amused,
While shopping at Bigley’s will get you new shoes,
Kawartha Dairy will tempt your taste buds, no doubt,
And a patio lunch is what Summer’s all about!
With the swing bridge now in full operation,
And the boats arriving from every location,
Town’s folk and tourists all head for the lock,
A popular place where onlookers flock.
And once a year we wait for the roar,
Of the dragon boat tour along our shore,
While weekly over at the old grandstand,
We bring our lawn chairs to enjoy the band.
You can walk your dog along the park trail,
Or go and enjoy an Old Dog ale,
Attend the annual antique show,
There’s always so much on the go.
The highlight of Fall, I do declare,
Has got to be the Bobcaygeon Fair,
Everyone comes and has a ball,
Because it is the Daddy of ‘Em All!
A special event is the Festival of Lights,
For those who come, an annual delight,
As Winter comes, the tourist go,
It quiets down and soon will snow.
Take a stroll on down to Bolton Street,
To shop or have a special treat,
As Christmas time soon draws near,
The downtown shines that time of year.
And while you are here in Bobcaygeon,
You may look to the constellations,
Or hum that tune while on your trip,
Made famous by the Tragically Hip!
As the days turn into each new season,
We enjoy this town for many a reason,
From the annual parades to the hot dog stand,
Or the call of the loons in this lake filled land.
There’s so much more this place does give,
I’m happy that it’s where I live,
Bobcaygeon is always a magical place,
For young and old to come embrace.

About this poem
The small town called Bobcaygeon is where I recently made my home with my husband. I enjoy the town so much and all it has to offer that I was inspired to write about it.
