The poet

I’ve always been the poet, never the poem
Silently begging for your attention
You can't tell, but I would kill for a simple mention
I never wanted to be a babysitter
Constantly calming the child in the mirror
“Soon your turn will come” I remind my reflection
But you know how children are, they quickly get impatient
A hopeless romantic to my core
Constantly fighting an internal war
Day by day, step by step
Slowly but surely, I’ll learn to accept
That my time is not aligned with the rest
Maybe it's for the best…
But then why am I so obsessed?
The restless hoping turns into a parasite
And takes its time eating me up from the inside
Loneliness, they call it
As if I personally chose it
But I’ll settle for the secondary character
The one always missing an imaginary lover
At least until my time comes
Until I get to be the poem
If I get to be the poem.

About this poem

It’s about a growing desperate desire for a relationship, and the doubt that slowly settles in with it.
