The written voyage

Today I went on an adventure, to a place alive to me
Through fictional to any other, a reality I see.
The trip started with a page, then grew into a book
But this is not merely a story, or a pretty fairytale
It's not just words I briefly see, but a ship I board and sail
I fall inside and that's where I hide, I breathe it's air, walk it's ground
Live it's life, relish the written ride, as I continue my quest
The minutes turn to hours, but I rarely even notice
The elevating plot thickens, a raging tempest begins
The storm meets its peak
Then the roaring ocean is calm, like a gentle moving creek
Our victory is now won, an amazing journey lived and gone
We have reached the sandy shore, I read, excited for what is near
Yet dreading it being o'er, a voyage that is closed and done
A boat docked at the shore
Though this journey may be ended, I  have lived a lifetime more
