AMERICAN RHAPSODY: TIS OF THEE
Barry Green Jr 1973 (Florida)
AMERICAN RHAPSODY: 'TIS OF THEE...
I looked at this land I love
As a tear slides down my face
Oh dear God above
Won't you shed on us Your Grace
Do you hear the Patriot's drum
Beating in the fire of war
The flute joins as song of freedom
Yearns to sing once more
America, 'tis of thee
I write this rhapsody
The fabled Land of the Brave and Just
Fallen to bickering and distress
Our motto, in God we Trust
Yet God gets our second best
Seeing the hatred, it's rather odd
The fires burn and I have to wonder
Are we still a nation under God?
Or just a nationgoing under ?
America, 'tis of thee
I write this rhapsody
We were the world's shiny light
Where Freedom all can find
But what good is a beckon at night,
If we have the blind lead the blind?
And I see God sigh, shaking His head
As we March past His Hand
We follow the devil instead
And dance to hatred's band
America,tis of thee
I write this rhapsody
America, place in God your trust
And His Grace will shine anew
Liberty's torch will guide the just
Let the light rise from you
Or fall into the ash of history
One more nation that's gone under
One more lost liberty, lost Glory
Fallen to evils plunder.
America, 'tis of thee
I write this rhapsody
AMEN
About this poem
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 chronicles 7 14
