The Ballad of the Midnight Moon
Helen Duncan 2002 (Lufkin)
In the dark of night, when the moon hangs high
And the stars shine bright in the endless sky
Comes a tale of mystery, of shadow and light
A ballad of the midnight moon, whispered in the night
In a small town nestled in the hills
Lived a poet with a heart full of thrills
He wandered the streets in the dead of night
Searching for inspiration, under the moon's soft light
His pen danced across the page with grace
Capturing the beauty of the night's embrace
The words flowed freely, like a river's stream
In his mind, the poet created a dream
He wrote of love and loss, of joy and pain
Of the endless cycle of sunshine and rain
His verses painted pictures of life's grand design
In every stanza, a piece of his heart did shine
But one night, as he walked through the town
He heard a voice, soft and low, a haunting sound
It called to him from the shadows deep
A melody that made his heart leap
He followed the sound to a hidden grove
Where the moonlight danced, casting shadows above
There he saw her, a figure in white
With a voice that filled the still of the night
She sang of love and of loss, of joy and of pain
Of the endless cycle of sunshine and rain
Her voice was like honey, sweet and pure
It wrapped around him, a balm for the soul so sure
He sat and listened, captivated by her song
For in her words, he found where he belonged
In that moment, under the midnight moon's glow
He felt a connection, a truth he didn't know
When she finished, she turned to him with a smile
And in her eyes, he saw a spark, a fire beguile
She spoke to him of his poetry, of his art
And how he had touched her, deep in her heart
They talked until the first light of dawn
Sharing secrets and dreams, until the night was gone
And in that magical moment, their souls entwined
Under the midnight moon, their hearts aligned
From that night on, they met in the grove
Under the watchful eyes of the moon above
She inspired him to write with new fire
And he in turn, filled her heart's desire
Their love story was a ballad of its own
A tale of two souls, together grown
In the still of the night, under the moon's soft light
Their love shone bright, a beacon in the night
And so, the poet's words rang true
In every verse, she was his muse
Their love story, a ballad of the midnight moon
Whispered in the night, sung in tune.
