Through My Eyes
As I tread the roads of life’s forgotten byways
I came upon the all too travelled highways
And I knew that if I walked their way, I’d lose
So I’d just turn and walk away
And not be touched by what they’d say
For I had to follow roads that I would choose
And in my travels, near and far
I’ve longed to see the shining star
Of hope, that sets my spirit free
And in my search for what we are
I’ve reached, and touched, that shining star
And in my travels I discovered me
So take heart in these few words I say
And let them work to light your way
And show to you the things of yet to be
But the way is long and, sometimes, hard
And your travels, sometimes, leaves you scarred
As you fight the fight you know will help you see
So take the bruises troubles send
The wise will profit in the ends
And you’ll see it’s not that big a price to pay
And if you want to win your fight
Just remember that you have that right
No matter what so many “people” say
So know the things you’re thinking of
And know the power wrought by love
Also know that, sometimes, you will fail
And know that when you look around
That there are people who will let you down
And though they hide it, their hearts, too, are frail
For deep within the heart of man
There is this “destined/master” plan
That many seem to term as being fate
And with blinders on they go their way
As they build their lives on what others say
And in this way their “destinies” create
So act within your own volition
Use your wits and intuition
Say to yourself, “I do these things for me”
And when you’ve travelled near and far
And have glimpsed, or touched, that fleeting star
Then deep inside you’ll know that you are free
