My Rearview Mirror
A nostalgic fool
You might say of me
Lost in the past
Reliving old memories
If I could only see
Just a little bit clearer
As I look so deep
Into my rearview mirror
Times when my Dad
Would buy a new car in the Spring
We’d sit on the front steps
Gaze upon it in early evening
Trips to Howard Johnson’s
For the treat of ice cream
My favorite of Buttercrunch
Yours too, then you know what I mean
When the Rock & Roll
Blessed my devoted ears
All the Guitar Gods
Rockin’ through the years
It’s not tomorrow
That I consequently fear
But that of my yesterdays
I’m drawn to be near
And there are times
Where the past calls on me
I’ll be busy working
When an old friend I see
To see that face
From way back when
To feel that place
Touch that memory again
From the days of my youth
Filled with smiles and laughter
To more recent times
I’ll remember long after
And thanks be to God
The almighty giver
That I’ll always have
My rearview mirror
