I Give You This . . .

Pisang, sisterfruit,
shy and slender, of the more worldly banana.
Luminous, golden,
a slice of sickle moon.
Growing clumped
along the branch like baby fists
of sleeping goblins
lying hidden in the blanketing leaves.
Sweeter than myrrh or
even frankincense, its scent.
Gift of the fourth wise king, had he not lost
his way, distracted
from the eastern star
by water lilies,
palm fronds,
terraces of silver rice,
hibiscus.
