Innocence Of Youth

When passion's suddenly over,
anxieties slowly begin.
Acquiescing to love's defeat,
you hide your hurt somewhere within.

Gone are the hopes and promises,
of a dream now drifting off course.
Dominating reality,
bitter tears flow with brutal force.

The weight of betrayal hits you,
with the force of a speeding train.
And you are knocked into a trance,
oblivious to all but pain.

Haunted by half truths and deceit,
happiness starts to slowly ebb.
And you are left vulnerable,
struggling within depression's web.

You're not sure if love is a lie,
or why hope camouflages truth.
Yet salvaging remnants of pride,
you discard innocence of youth.

Many of my poems reflect the uniqueness and special circumstances of my upbringing. more…
