The Dental Lab
Come to me you who are toothless and without a smile;
Let me make right what God forgot.
Stay with me but just for a while.
Until the morphine takes hold from the given shot.
Let my Angels sing to you while in the chair;
So it will drown out the noise from my drill.
Before I am through, you will be pulling your hair,
Meanwhile begging for another pill.
Fear not, for the worse is yet to come;
When in the mirror you see your swollen face,
The mouth feels as if it's been widened some,
And the tongue is heavy and without taste.
No food today, for you cannot chew,
The stomach growls with a hollow sound.
Another cup of tea, and another, is all one can do,
While you wait, and wait, for the swelling to go down.
Look around you, and what do you behold;
Many more people with ice-packs to their cheeks.
Some with major conditions, I'm told,
They will wind up staying for many weeks.
At last, the swelling has subsided;
The hammering and the drilling have gone away.
Speech has become normal, and not one-sided,
My smile has returned; I am so happy today!
