The Whistling Man.
The whistling man
Came over the hill,
As he walked through the valley
He was whistling still.
He walked through the woods
Where the high trees grew,
And whistled to the song-birds
He loved and he new.
He stepped through the grass
And hopped over thistle,
Then sauntered through bluebells
With a hearty happy whistle.
The whistling man
Who could'nt speak a word,
Could whistle a song
As sweet as any bird.
As he strolled by the lakes
So calm and so clear,
He sat for a while
Whistling memories so dear.
He whistled by day
As he whistled by night,
And the stars danced his tune
While the moon shone its light.
He climbed up a moutain
Where the bald eagles fly,
And gave out a whistle
That reached to the sky.
It bounced off of heaven
And rolled down a glen,
And the man with the whistle
Was not seen again.
That good man has gone
But his whistle still rings,
Through the valleys the trees
And the songs the birds sing.
Until that rare day
If you follow his tune,
Listen for echo's
From midnight to noon.
Through the valleys and hills
They ride on the breeze,
Whistling a tune as they
Blow through the trees.
