Analysis of CONSOLIDA
JP. 1948 (United Kingdom)
The body of evidence she bought into mind
Was this unselfish act a little more than just kind?
A small thought was in there held in this approach
As she tidied her hair and reset that broach
Was all this new interest aimed solely at her?
In between pages of repressed Larkspur
That subtle refraction of his spoken sound
That seemed to be there if she was around
What quirk gave rise to a feeling like this?
In a middle-aged spinster that’s still called miss
Would anyone spot that she was walking on air?
Reacting to feelings that someone might care
She will, just wait and see hold that spark if she can
From the wanted attentions of this a new man
She arranges the flowers he sent her today
And wants to think of him with her in that way
But remembers the pain of when she was so wronged
The last time to someone she thought she belonged
Flattered by kindness which felt very nice
Yet recalling that giving might have a huge price
So she put it away and ignored what she felt
But it came back again as her heart started to melt
The form of his face was there in her head
Mixed up with elation and a small thought of dread
And not letting herself believe in this dream
She gazed at the flowers and what they could mean
Just a token that’s all in a vacuum of gloom
As they stood in that vase and lit up the room
This was so silly she thought to herself
These infantile dreams of someone on the shelf
And settled her mind to read a new book
On the page the reflection of that mans chance look
So to drive out the image she began to chop wood
But he kept coming back it was simply no good
To remove him symbolically she washed her red hair
As she looked in the mirror he was still standing there
He was inside her head by thought now entwined
And her confidence gathered not to be undermined
If that’s what he wanted then it would be that way
So she asked him to dinner the very next day
As he stood empty handed and rapped on her door
Both knew it had started not alone any more
