Analysis of Short Story 1

Justin Forgues 1985 (Massachusetts)

It started off as a simple day.....

I opened the door
went outside grabbed my mail
and seen you across the street

You waved
and I eagerly motioned back

That face of yours
filled me with such content

Only thing I could think at the moment
Was how we decided to see each other later in the night

I remember I grabbed my clothes from the closet as quick as I could
It must of been maybe one, two in the morning

I tripped over an old pair of shoes I had  stuffed underneath the window

Yet getting myself back to my feet
I snuck out the house like I did every other night......

The window
ever quietly
Then down full length of the drain pipe

Left foot, right foot
Ever pressing together so as not to fall

Soon as my feet hit the ground I took off in the fastest direction
towards you

I ran as quick as my legs would allow
to the shed behind my house
where we said we would meet

You wore a black New York Yankees cap

I asked about the new attire and expressed my distain for the franchise

You simply lowered your head and kept motionless.....

I found that rather odd
but moved towards you ever excitedly

You were too far away from me to see your face, but I did see the hat

I could not express how happy I was to finally be there, with you
In this moment

As quick as it happened though
The back light triggered quick

Which is odd because I seen you standing there earlier and nothing had happened

Only once I ran towards you did it turn on

Half way there though
I turned back quick
Fearing my parents noticing me outside
I shot back into my house

Scared, heart beating out of my chest
knowing I was moments
away from being caught

I warily sprinted into my bed safely and without them noticing

As I start to fall asleep though, I hear knocks on my window...

Sounded like rocks thrown lightly
against them
So I assume it must be you

Yet when I looked outside you are now wearing a White Yankees Cap

I text you asking
"Why are you throwing rocks at my window? And what was the point of changing hats?

"What are you talking about? Let me in"

"You just seen how the back porch light turned on! I needed to get inside before I got into trouble"

You answered me hesitantly...

As if you had no idea what I was talking about....

"Look, You invited me, you asked me to come over
I told you I had to wait till my parents fell asleep, now let me in"

"What do you mean? Like I just fucking seen you 2 minutes ago"

"Hun I have been waiting here outside for over 15min now, seriously you are starting to freak me the fuck out"

"Okay really? Try to scare me all u want But I thought you were different!

"What the shit?!
Baby listen to me...
I have not, fucking NOT seen you tonight and what the fuck are you talking about?

"Also.....
Beyond fucked up you'd bring up that cap! You know damn well my brother never took it off an why I wear the opposite color now"

"To hopefully bring him back
or at least some piece of him
I don't fucking know!

"STOP, PLEASE!
I AM NOT SAYING THAT.....

But I AM LOOKING AT YOU OUTSIDE MY WINDOW RIGHT NOW!!

"HUN!!!!.......THAT IS NOT FUCKING ME!!"
