Analysis of Dear Dad

Dear Dad, I hope that you can hear this wherever you may be,
I'm sure you're up in Heaven, on a Harley riding free,
I took too long to tell you, of all the things unsaid,
So now that you're in Heaven, I'll send a prayer your way instead,

Dear Dad, how can I begin to tell you all that you've been to me,
A strong shoulder to cry on, the fixer of broken dreams,
A judgment free confidant, a teacher and a friend,
A recipient of drunken texts that I'd send,

Dear Dad, once upon a time it was just me and my big brother,
Then you told us we now had another,
Yet you still weren't done building your loving home,
You gave us one more brother, a joy I've rarely known.

Dear Dad, We all love and miss you from the bottom of our hearts,
We're glad you are at peace now, hard though it is to part,
Thank you for the love you showed us all,
We'll see you again, when we too hear Heaven's call.
