Analysis of Don't give up

Jessica Millitello 1988 (United States)

Sometimes I'm climbing these walls,
My mind won't stop racing.
Other times the walls are closing in,
And every other thought I'm missing.

I've done everything I could to escape,
To find a solution or some type of answer.
All I ever find is the bottom of a bottle,
And a heart that's even heavier.

It seems I'm destined to be a failure,
And to live everyday in pain.
I don't even know why I try,
Will probably just screw shit up again.

But I will not lay down and take it,
I will not let this be the end.
There's more to me than this strife,
There's 3 innocent faces I will defend.

When life seems overwhelming,
And everything feels hopelessly lost,
I take deep breaths, repeatedly tell myself,
It is what it is, regardless of the cost.

I cannot always give up,
And I cannot always complain.
At some point I have to put the work in,
I need to stay solid and refrain.

Everyone knows the struggle,
And we all face the same fall.
Those who are destined to make it,
Have to learn when to make that call.
