Analysis of Jessica and Christopher Telfer
Karl Constantine FOLKES 1935 (Portland)
Jessica & Christopher:
(On the blessed occasion of your marriage at St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica, West Indies, on the fourth day of June, in the year of the Lord, Two Thousand and
Sixteen)
+
Joined now with mindfulness in Holy Matrimony.
Each of you becoming one.
Serving your Maker Jesus Christ.
Serving Him your LORD and Master.
Inscribing on your lips and in your heart.
Challenges to be met, embraced, overcome.
A compact forged out of greater love.
And in this challenge growing ever closer.
Nearer both of you as one in Spirit.
Discovering deeper Truth in Bridal Mystery.
Cling to that path that gives direction.
Hindered not by any obstacles.
Remember you two are cleaved as one.
In Holy Matrimony God is your Potter.
Sealing you both with Holy Spirit.
Together then you journey forward.
Onward the path, nearer to Him.
Patience, Kindness, Faith, Hope, and Love.
Heed the words of God’s Commandments.
Each of you as man and woman.
Renewed by Trust, recompensed with holiness.
E PLURIBUS UNUM

About this poem
On Saturday, June 4, 2016, my wife, Florence Hershell Pu-Folkes and I, witnessed the marriage of our niece, Jessica Noelle Folkes to Christopher Telfer, both of Jamaica, West Indies. It was a joyful occasion to meet many friends and relatives and celebrate with them the union of two prominent Jamaican families. The Holy matrimony was followed by a sumptuous meal and, on Sunday, June 5, 2016, the celebration of the Holy Eucharist and Sermon at St. Andrew Parish Church, Hagley Park Road, Half Way Tree, Kingston, Jamaica. This poem, “Jessica and Christopher Telfer,” was composed to honor the new couple, to celebrate their marriage, and to wish them well in their spiritual lives as husband and wife. The three stanzas of the poem are written in acrostic format to highlight memory of the occasion. more »
