Analysis of Your Own

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

What do you have that you’re calling your own?
All the things that you have are only on loan
God gave them to you, so don’t act so proud
While you’re out with your bodyguard surfing the crowd

Get back on the stage where you say you belong
And try not to sing or say anything wrong
The rest of your fans are still out in the street
With no clothes on their backs and no shoes on their feet

They long to be with you there under the table
But you got so drunk that you were barely able
To get your intoxicated ass off the floor
And to stagger and trip all the way out the door
