Analysis of In the shadow of Tom Joad

In the shadow of Tom Joad

Pushed, pushed till there ain’t no more to push
moving to find work to the edge of the sea

up against the walls of life

some of them born on it
some of them died on it
fought and worked on it
it’s that which made it their's

Hunger made real
Amidst the hungry eyes
generosity abides
often from those with the least

To be their brothers keeper
to see themselves in others
one big soul of man
that one belongs to a bigger cause
where people struggle against the odds
the inner strength resides to endure
to keep going and let their spirit be

Put down, beaten, starved, exploited
giving till they can’t give no more
still they rise to face the day
keeping compassion and humanity
In the struggle of their times
