Analysis of Sons and Daughters
She was pregnant
They were wanting a boy
Didn't said it out loud or
maybe said I didn't heard,
definitely hinted and prayed.
It was a girl
They said it didn't matter
Anyways, it's been a long time
since a girl was born in the house,
I can't imagine the reason.
They were good, religious people
showered her with love
bought toys and stuff
and decided she would become a doctor,
Don't know how they came to that conclusion.
A couple years passed
everything was good
they loved her
as much as they could,
Now they want a boy.
It started with subtle comments
how she would love a little brother
a small boy to play with,
I looked at her
it can't be far from reality.
Comments grew from subtle to bold
now they were giving unwanted advice
that it was time
for them to have another child,
A boy to carry the family name.
She nodded and accepted
Don't know what she wanted
they never asked her
And smiled a sad smile
whenever I asked the question.
Don't know how they can even think
about growing another child
when their plates are full with her,
Such an energetic child
always busy with mischief.
They don't think about how and why
just want what society deems right
never gave a thought to
What would happen to the child
whose birth was to satisfy the society.
If it's another girl or
if they can't care enough
with two childs in their home
what about financial situation
Her dreams and aspirations,
Can't comprehend what they think
but if you ask me
That girl is more than enough.
