Analysis of Better Ways To Complain

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Let's stay on the other side,
Of all the things swinging back and forth.
In such negative ways.
We can, should and must,
See this stuff for what it is.
Don't disbelieve,
The crime, corruption and lies told to deceive.
Are just a figment of your imagination.
Smell it.
It's in the air.
Yet on the other side that stench...
Stays where it is to leave.

Refuse to accept it.
You should, can and must.
How many times have you trusted that stuff?
Then turn your back on it.
Feeling a foot kicked in your butt.
Give that stuff up.
And also those you call friends.
Looking for you to share their better ways,
To hear themselves complain.
As they await to hear you defend them.
Leaving you to pretend,
Making attempts to meet their expectations.

'What should I say?
I can't pretend around my friends that way.'

Trust me.
They are not your friends.
And hopefully one day,
You will enjoy two words to them to say.
One word rhymes with 'duck'.
And the other...
With 'dew'!
Like the morning mist,
That collects upon the grass.
Just before dawn.

'Hmmm...
Duck dew makes no sense.
However...
I'll try Do Duck.
That way,
I will leave them knowing I mean business.
If they start to mess with me.'

Bring with you a briefcase.

To show them just how serious you are.
Your friends are few aren't they?

'Yeah.
How did you know that?'

Experiences.
Yours seem to me to have been limited.

'Wow.
That's true too.
Oh...
How long should we stay on the other side.
Of all the things swinging back and forth?
I use to want to be a boxer.
You know,
To protect myself.'

I can't imagine from what.
