Analysis of Spirit against Flesh
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Works of the flesh are manifest,
Impurity is evident;
Immorality and incest,
Causes one to be decadent.
Envy will promote jealousy,
Bringing idolatry to life;
Challenge one to a rivalry,
Which will lead to hardship and strife.
These prevent you to inherit,
And enter the Kingdom of God;
Established from wicked merit,
Which is causing you to be flawed.
The fruit of the Spirit is love,
Having joy and peace through patience;
The kindness and goodness thereof,
Makes self-control in your conscience.
Against such things, there is no law,
Those who are meek belong to Christ;
Since flesh desires cause a flaw,
That makes the heart to be enticed.
For if we live by the Spirit,
Then we must continue the pace;
The goodness is in our merit,
Rewarded by God with His grace.
Let us not become conceited,
A desirous glory in vain;
Salvation would be defeated,
And cause your soul to have a stain.
