Analysis of Gem

Michelle Bura-ay 2005 (Midsayap, Cotabato)

I can't afford you,
You're a gem,
I'm just a bronze.
Rich came into my life,
Gives money for me to afford,
A gem that needs to be taken care of and valued
I'd loved the richness,
But I was played by it,
I lost you, gem, my happiness,
And you've found by someone else.

He was named gold,
As bright as the sun,
Pricier than mine,
He is original,
but I was your original

He's so happy, so I wasn't
Rich, why did you play along?
I was expecting that happiness would be pretty long,
Oh, I forgot I was just a bronze,
A bronze that's not as valuable as gold.

About this poem

it is about people who fell in love and got broken. Someone who unvalued his lover so, she was found by someone else. This poem is comparing the ex-couple into gem and bronze while the new partner is gold. And, fate is the Rich in poetry.
