Analysis of What does it mean to be a woman?
What does it mean to be a woman
In todays fucked up world?
If she’s comfortable in her sexuality
We call her a slut as you clutch your pearls
She’s told it’s bad to have a high number
And she’s damaged goods amongst the girls
But if she’s saving herself for marriage
Then we make fun of her for being with only one
She’s called a prude and frigid
And that she mustn’t be any fun
If she loves beating her face with make up
She’s told she would be better without it
But if she’s bared skinned and natural
She’s told a little make up would be a big hit
If she tells you no
She’s called a bitch and a whore
But when she says yes
She’s called an easy score
If she puts her body through hell
All so you can go raw
She’s told it feels better for them without it
Isn’t it about making them feel in awe?
But if she gives her body a well deserved break
And asks you to wrap
She’s told how boring she is
And now for them it will feel crap
If she works her up way the corporate ladder
She’s too focused and a career snob
But if she stays at home to look after your children
Then she’s told “that’s not a real job”
If she walks alone at night
Or decides she wants to go on a run
We tell her that it’s her fault
She should know not to trust anyone
But if someone approaches her
And she ignores them and continues to walk by
Then we say how cold women are
And that you were only trying to say hi
If she decides she wants to be single
And live her best life partying till sunrise
We think there has to be something wrong with her
Party girls will never get the guys
But if she chooses to get married
And settle down as someone’s wife
Then we tell her it won’t last that long
And marriage will ruin your life
If she gets pregnant
And decides now is not the right time
We tell her she’s a murderer
And now in some countries she can be charged with a crime
But if she gets pregnant
And decides she wants to be a mum
We tell her that she’s making a mistake
And looked at as Centrelink scum
If she goes out in a short dress
She’s told what did you expect
We can’t control ourselves around such temptations
A short dress somehow makes her an object
If she leaves a bad relationship
She’s told you know how men can be
But if she stays she’s told
Why didn’t you leave if he was so mean
So what does it mean to be a woman
In todays fucked up world?
The answer is a double-edged sword
We are told one day we will rule but always come second as a girl
