Analysis of Country Gold

Gotta a little piece of dirt behind my house
You can’t see it from the road
Over the hill and under the ground
They say there’s country gold
Maybe there is and maybe there ain’t
I’m never goin to tell
But if I catch ya snoopin’ round
I’ll shoot you straight to hell

My daddy’s daddy farmed this patch
Is all I know for sure
The day he died he held my hand
And whispered in my ear
“Boy” he said “the rumor’s true, this farm should never be sold”
The soil we’re on is pretty poor
But it’s mixed with country gold”.

Our secret’s safe most every day
Most fools don’t have a clue
No one’s the wiser when the sun is out
And the sky shines bright and blue
But once a year the rain falls down
And the sun peeks through the cloud
A rainbow pierces the stormy sky
And yells our secret out loud.

Some have diamonds or fancy cars
Boats and stocks and bonds
I’ll take the soil and the smell of hay
Plus a favorite fishing pond
I’ve lost my youth and I feel my age
But I’m ok with getting old
My retirement plan is 50/50

About this poem

I saw a vibrant rainbow behind my house with a very bright connection to the farm ground as it touched the earth.
