Analysis of In the Sky Afar

Children shine,
With words so kind.
Every day with fine design.
They see day,
They see light,
And so with this, a poem I recite:

Picture yourself gazing up at the night sky
Living a happy life, not a thing awry
You lay eyes upon a northern star
You have a wish, it may be bizarre
And so with words so soft, you speak
With a wish, only to you, it's unique:

"Star light,
Star bright.
First star I see tonight.
I wish I may,
I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight."

The child spoke, gazing up at a star
A star so close, a star so far
Gazing up with solemn words
A careful wish, the star then heard

"Give my family peace and rest,
For I do solemnly wish them all the best.
But let me be free and go my own way.
For I do wish tomorrow at the start of day;
I can find a good job, life, and career,
And when all is done, I'll return to the family I hold so dear."

The star gazed at the child with eyes so wide
"A star," it thought. "In a star, this child confides."
So the star looked at the child and the child looked at the star
And in the child, the star saw a future that was truly bizarre

"My child, you may wish deep, yet still
I'm merely a star, and I cannot fulfill
The dreams you hold so deep in your heart,
But, child I beg of you, don't let them fall apart.

For if you work hard, and try every day,
My child, I know you'll find your own way.
Don't grow up too fast,
Let those memories last!
For I have one wish I ask of you:
Always try, and always stay true."

The child wept and wept and wept.
But the star's words, in heart, were kept!
And so the child went on with the day,
The child laughed and the child played.
And each and every day to pass by,
The child would wait for night and look up to the sky

The child would get closer to granting the star's desire
And so the child held standards higher and higher
And each and every single day,
The child would by night say:

"My star, I wish you well tonight
My star in the sky, shining so bright.
For I'm ever closer to giving you what you wish for,
And I'll continue to work until it's done, I'll work forevermore."

And as time passed, that child grew tired and old.
Yet the child's story had not yet been told.
The child had worked hard every day and night,
Working for a night star that shined so bright.

And one night, that star looked down on the child,
Remembering the kid that would run so wild.
The child would not let imagination run short,
And the child never let life's importance distort.

So the star once again spoke with proud words,
Proud words someone who was once a child heard.
With heart so dear and words so kind,
It was happiness that the child would find.

"My child, you've bid me well, all your life long,
And so now I bid you a beautiful song."

Who was once a child looked up with a curious eyes,
And the star began to sing, though ever so shy:

"You've given me happiness, the world is kind!
So my child, I do hope, I hope you find
That wishes cannot be granted through a shining star,
No matter how close, no matter how far.
Wishes are granted through heart and soul
As long as you always keep that heart whole!"

And the child looked up at the star and smiled,
And then the two dreamed, happy and wild.
You can wish upon a star any day and night,
But that wish will only come true if you shine bright.
