Analysis of Loneliness of the Heart
Tommy L. Maddox 1972 (North Carolina)
A couple walks in love's embrace,
content and silent with total grace.
I watch from the shadows,
a soul not loved.
For it is my folly,
my personal prison.
My heart lies in darkness,
cold, empty, and without vision.
One day though she will come,
to unlock my shackles with the key,
I lost so long ago.
For now, this is where I shall reside,
in the shadows watching.
waiting for the one,
who will be my savior.
Bringing kindness and love,
to my dismal entrapment.
Here I remain for now,
hopeless and lost.
Tormenting myself,
in the loneliness of the heart.
