Analysis of Writers Block

Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)

I sit at my desk, cigarette burning
Flies buzz around me, they're learning
I drink cheap whiskey, feeling old
Everything around me, just seems to fold

The walls close in, they're suffocating
My head is pounding, it's devastating
Another day wasted, another chance gone
I try to write, but the words don't belong

I look out the window, the world keeps turning
People rushing by, they're not concerning
They have their lives, their hopes and dreams
But me, I just exist, or so it seems

I light another cigarette, the smoke fills the air
My life feels hollow, like I'm going nowhere
The emptiness inside, it's hard to shake
I try to find meaning, but it's hard to make

The bottle is empty, the night is long
My thoughts swirl, they're all wrong
But I keep going, I keep trying
Because in the end, there's no denying

Life can be tough, it can be cruel
But we still fight, we still duel
We may not win, we may not succeed
But we keep going, because that's the need.

Joe Strickland

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…
