Analysis of I Am Me

The whiskey burns
As I scribble on paper
Words flowing freely
Like the booze in my veins

I hear the city
Breathing outside my window
Its heartbeat echoing
In the silence of my room

My mind wanders
Through memories and regrets
Broken dreams and shattered hopes
All hidden behind a tough façade

I light a cigarette
And inhale deeply
The smoke fills my lungs
And I feel alive

In this moment
I am me
Living the life of a writer
Drinking and writing
Until there's nothing left

The page is full
And so is my glass
I stumble to bed
With a heart full of sorrow

But tomorrow is a new day
And I'll drag myself out of bed
To start the cycle again
Writing and drinking
Until the end.

Joe Strickland

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…
