Analysis of Beauty, personified
Joseph Clark 1996 (England)
You are beauty, personified.
You are beauty, encased.
You are beauty, wrapped up in a bow
and presented in a bow-tied case.
Your beauty reminds me of a bird, entrapped
within a cage.
Singing softly, sadly, wondering when
he can finally escape.
Your beauty reminds me of the sun.
It warms, glows, heats, sustains me -
but never get too close, linger too long
lest be ridden with welts red and angry.
Your beauty makes my heart sing a hollow tune.
It makes my heart feel engorged.
Wrapped in briars, beating nonetheless -
you calm me and cure my utter distress -
