Analysis of Freedom
Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)
True freedom is when
You can no longer remember
How heavy the chains were,
No longer recall
The weight of the metal links
Dragging you down
Through the depths of despair,
And the depths of desire
When your mind is cleansed
Of the iron grip of past pain.
When memories float away
Like feathers on a gentle breeze,
No longer tethered to your psyche,
No longer shackled to your soul,
Soaring above,
Weightless,
Untangled
In the boundless expanse of possibility.
Where the weight of the past
Has dissipated like smoke.
Where the heaviness of burden
Has vanished into thin air.
And you stand, light as air
With no recollection,
No remembrance
Of what once held you back.
Where chains have become
Mere whispers of forgotten days.
And the freedom you feel
Is as elusive as a fleeting dream,
Yet as real as the beating of your heart.
And you can only wonder
How it felt to be constrained
Within the confines
Of your own limitations.
