Analysis of Glass Instinct

Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)

Through fragile
Layers
Reflections
Capture instinct,
Whispers
Of desires
Contained
Behind glass
Prison,
Instincts echo,
Yearning
To be free.

About this poem

This poem explores the concept of confinement and longing for freedom. The fragile layers referred to can be interpreted as various barriers or limitations that one faces in life. Reflections capture an innate sense of knowing or understanding, while whispers hint at hidden desires that are carefully contained behind a metaphorical glass prison. The instincts, however, echo and yearn to break free from these restrictions, longing for liberation.
