Analysis of Void

In the realm of nothingness,
I lost myself—
Dropped the weight
Of all knowns,
Found contentment
In the dim light of negation.

Nihilism,
My wayward companion,
You stripped me bare,
Whispered secrets of the void,
Where galaxies weep
Their final tears.

They called us fools,
but what do they know
of this vast emptiness
that we inhabit?
The sacred mystery
of a world without meaning.

I dove headfirst
Into the abyss,
Swallowed whole
The bitterness of existence,
Befriended
The blackest despair.

In your arms,
I learned the language of absence,
The bitter syntax
Of negation.
Each word a falling star,
Extinguished.

No truth to seek,
No purpose to discover.
We roamed the precipice
Of nothing,
Veiled in the smoke
Of our own disillusionment.

The nihilist knows
No boundaries,
No boundaries for joy,
For love, for suffering.
All rendered insignificant,
A mere cosmic joke.

I reveled
In my disappearance,
The dissolution of self
In the face of the infinite.
A small act of defiance
Against the cruelty of existence.

But in the depths,
I found the gentle pulse of doubt.
The tremor of possibility,
The flicker of a question:
Could there be more,
Beyond the void?

And so, I emerged,
Reborn from my own unbecoming,
No longer bound
By the cocoon of nothingness.
In this newfound space,
I dance to the melody of uncertainty.

The nihilist’s creed,
Once so alluring,
Now a distant echo,
A whisper in the wind.
A chapter closed,
A poem abandoned mid-line.

In the face of oblivion,
I choose to live,
To find meaning
In the spaces between,
To write my own story,
Incomplete yet beautiful.

Joe Strickland

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…
